Energy Efficient Glass is glass that is thermally insulating, noise reducing, or a combination of both. Thermally insulating glass keeps heat out of the home in summer, and cold out during winter. Noise reducing glass helps to minimise external noise entering the home. The combination style ensures thermal insulation and noise reduction in one. Comfort Plus Energy Efficient Glass
Comfort plus is the energy efficient glass that keeps the heat out in summer and cold out in winter. It is a Low-E performance laminate suitable for residential and commercial buildings. It has a specific coating to reduce the suns heating, glare and UV fading of interior furnishings. In Winter, this coating reduces heat loss to the surroundings by 40% (compared to regular glass). The glass coating must go on the inside. Cleaning this glass is different to regular glass.
This type of glass comes in clear, neutral, or grey. Up to 76% of high daylight transmission is achieved. Up to 70% of solar emission is eliminated. There is a 40% improvement in U-Value of the glass (less heat is transmitted). It also reduces UV radiation by 99%. It is a type of Grade A Safety Glass. The interlayer reduces general noise by 13%, traffic noise by 23% compared to standard 3mm glass. Installed in windows and doors, facades and overhead glazing. Hush Noise Reduction Glass
Hush glass is a type of laminated glass that has a thicker plastic interlayer than regular laminated glass. The glass thickness ranges from 6.5 – 12.88mm. Normal laminated glass is 6.38mm for comparison, which also has noise reduction properties compared to regular glass. The interlayer thickness is 0.5 – 0.88mm thick in hush. The interlayer is 0.38mm thick in regular laminate for comparison. This is a Grade A type safety glass.
This type of glass comes in clear, grey or translucent. 6.5 Hush reduces noise by an average of 36dB (decibels). 6.38 laminated glass reduces noise by an average of 33dB. Traffic noise is 70dB, busy traffic 75dB, live band 105dB, classroom 30-40dB, office spaces 40-50dB. Installing this type of glass results in the reduction of noise transmission by 36dB for Hush or 33dB for laminate.
The noise reduction capacity is optimized by a whole window system. In normal residential windows there are gaps and holes that may affect the noise reduction capacity. This may reduce the decibel value, although the glass will still reduce noise, it may not achieve these exact results. It is important to assess all factors including new framing when looking at a wholistic noise reduction system. To learn more about Hush click here.
